Finanzauto Joins La Gran Pradera Project to Restore Posidonia in the Mediterranean

28 August 2024
At Finanzauto, we have joined the La Gran Pradera project, an initiative led by the Vellmarí Association aimed at restoring the marine ecosystems of Ibiza and Formentera through the planting of 50,000 Posidonia oceanica plants throughout 2025.
Posidonia oceanica is a marine plant endemic to the Mediterranean that plays a critical role in the health of the sea: it captures CO₂, produces oxygen, protects beaches from erosion, and provides habitat for key biodiversity that sustains ecosystem balance. Unfortunately, its meadows have declined by 34% in recent decades due to uncontrolled anchoring, pollution, and the impact of climate change.
Aware of this reality, Finanzauto is contributing to the restoration of this unique habitat. Our collaboration includes technical and human support for underwater reforestation efforts, as well as the promotion of awareness and environmental education campaigns linked to the project.
This initiative is aligned with the UN 30x30 agreement, which aims to protect at least 30% of the world’s marine ecosystems by 2030 and strengthens our —and Grupo TESYA’s— commitment to an industrial development model that respects and protects the natural environment.
“Industrial progress must go hand in hand with respect for the natural environment. Participating in La Gran Pradera is a tangible way of giving back to the Mediterranean and actively engaging in its regeneration,”
— Pierre-Nicola Fovini, CEO of Finanzauto.
The planting will take place in the Ses Salines Natural Park, one of the most ecologically valuable coastal areas of the Balearic Islands. It will be carried out with the scientific support of the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA – CSIC-UIB) and with the participation of divers, volunteers, and young people committed to the future of the sea.
“Restoring posidonia is a complex but urgent task. Having companies like Finanzauto join this cause demonstrates that sustainability is a shared responsibility,”
— Manu San Félix, marine biologist and Project Director.
At Finanzauto, we continue to move towards a more sustainable energy and technology model, firmly believing that protecting the sea means protecting the future.
